ConVal Drama presents parody April 4-6, Peterborough

ConVal High School Drama will present “The Drowsy Chaperone” at ConVal High School April 4, 5 and 6 at 7 p.m.

The show is a parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s. The story concerns a middle-aged, asocial musical theatre fan (Man in the Chair) as he plays the record of his favorite musical, the fictional 1928 hit “The Drowsy Chaperone.” The show comes to life onstage as he wryly comments on the music, story, and actors as he frequently brings the audience in and out of the fantasy.

The plot of the show-within-a-show centers on Janet Van De Graaff, star of “Feldzieg’s Follies” who plans to give up her career in order to marry an oil tycoon, Robert Martin.

The show is directed by Liz Halper with music direction by Henry Lewers and Leslie Vogel. The cast includes Megan Beckman, Joshua Bartsch, Johannes Brandstaetter, Sean Campbell, Ben Carne, Madeline Ciocci, Ken Cloutier (ConVal faculty), Chris Commander (alumna), Joshua Curran, Cassie Cutting, Jesse Edward, Chris Heffernan, Kyra Lloyd, Sally Paquette, Dakota Potter, Kylie Roosa, Montana Schultz, Thayer Taft, Dillon Sullivan and Arianna Zrzavy.

The band features Henry Lewers, piano; Leslie Vogel, accordion; David Selmer, percussion; Eileen Kelly, bass; Elizabeth Taft, flute and Kathryn Galley, clarinet.

Production/technical crew includes Elizabeth Moore, assistant director; Sarah Brown, choreography; Bruce Dodge, set design; Carolyn Grisafi, costume design; Connie Cerroni and Kaylin Krslovic, costume assistants.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. To reserve, call 924-3869 and select ‘2’ for the main office.
