Peterborough contra dance set for May 4

The first Saturday contra dance will be held at the Peterborough Town House on May 4, beginning at 8 p.m.

Tod Whittemore will be calling the dance with music by Rodney Miller on fiddle, Glen Loper on mandolin and tenor banjo, and Peter Siegel on guitar.

Whittemore has been calling dances for 40 years all over the world.

Musician Rodney Miller is widely considered to be the foremost exponent of New England-style fiddling and in 1983 was designated a master fiddler by the National Endowment for the Arts.

There will be an introductory workshop before the dance. Admission is $8 or $6 for students and seniors.

The dance is sponsored by the Monadnock Folklore Society. For more information, call 762-025 or visit
