Pool shouldn’t have user fees
To the editor:
For the record, I have never once been in the town pool and have no plans to ever use it in the future.
I do, however, consider it to be one of Peterborough’s finer assets. My children, when they were younger, took full advantage of the pool. They swan recreationally; they did swim team; and they took lessons.
I have always liked the idea that the pool was free for all town residents to enjoy. For that reason, when the vote was taken for the bond so that the pool could be rebuilt, I supported it. I do not recall any mention of there being any user fees to be imposed when the pool was completed.
Frankly, I was appalled to read that there are to be charges for town residents to use the pool. Kudos to the Recreation Committee for unanimously opposing such fees.
In this economy, I like the idea that there is something for families to do that does not cost anything.
I strongly urge that the vote to impose a user fee be reconsidered.
