Kickstarter campaign for book on local farms
Peterborough photographer Kimberly Peck has launched a 30-day Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for her forthcoming book: “Farm, Food, Life… Photographs and Recipes Inspired by Our Local Farms.”
In 2011, Peck began feeding her passion for documentary photography by photographing area farms in support of growing local food movement.
“With my farm project, I want to connect farmers and communities through the visual narrative of documentary photography. I want people to see who is growing our food and to understand the hard work that goes into farming. The photographs compel us to think about the food on our plates, where it came from and who grew it. Every farm is different — what they do, how they do it and what they offer. I think the project has captured the farms and farmers’ unique characteristics, and shared them with a larger audience,” says Peck.
Originally featured in The Monadnock-Ledger Transcript, Peck’s farm photography continues to evolve into an inspiring and creative exploration of local agriculture. Over the past three years, Peck has documented over 30 farms, with more visits planned this year.
Peck is now turning her photographs into a self-published book. “Farm, Food, Life…Photographs and Recipes Inspired by Our Local Farms” will be sold at local shops, farm stores and online. It will feature photographs, farmer profiles and recipes from local farms. Co-created with professional chef and farmer Sarah Heffron of Mayfair Farm in Harrisville, the recipes will showcase local ingredients produced by the featured farms and they are geared toward all levels of cooks and bakers.
Peck seeks to raise $2,400 by Aug. 18 to cover the costs of design and printing. Through Kickstarter, contributors support artists’ projects and in return receive unique rewards created by the artist. Kickstarter runs on an “all or nothing” philosophy: If the project is not fully funded by the campaign end date, the artist receives no money and the project is canceled.
Peck’s work has been featured in Taproot magazine and Yankee Magazine. Her photographs have been exhibited around New England, including the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery, Griffin Museum of Photography and the Sharon Arts Center.
