Eastmans mark 75 years together
George and Fern Eastman celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary Sept. 18. Celebrations began with a surprise dinner party the evening of Sept. 17 with the Birchwoods Assisted Living (Portland, Maine) residents and staff as well as their family including their two great-grandchildren.
The Eastmans were Peterborough residents for about 95 years.
The festivities opened with George and Fern entering through a floral arbor to celebrate the garden wedding they were unable to have on their wedding day because the Hurricane of 1938 had flooded the town. A resident piano artist played love songs from their generation followed by George giving Fern a large LED ‘diamond’ ring in recognition of diamonds for the 75th year.
The anniversary couple and their family were seated at a head table for the dinner. A three-tiered anniversary cake was cut by the couple.
The following evening a surprise extended family dessert and champagne toast was held at the Eastmans’ apartment flowed by celebration.
The Eastmans’ family includes son Mark and wife Nancy and granddaughter Morgan Eastman of Falmouth, Maine; granddaughter Chelsea and husband Patrick Merrill, great-grandchildren Rebecca (2 ½ years old) and Anthony (2 months old) of Westbrook, Maine; daughter Donna and husband Phil Berry of Plympton, Mass; granddaughter Alanna and husband Chris Regan of Westfield, Mass.
