Praising benefits of pellet stoves
To the editor:
I enjoyed seeing the recent article “Saving Environment, Money” about using wood pellet stoves and boilers for home heating. The article touches on a number of excellent points, including saving substantial money year after year; being one of the most environmentally friendly ways to heat; helping our local and national economy; and leaving the owner with a much more comfortable home.
The article performed a valuable service in mentioning at least a few of the reasons that pellet stove owners are so happy. Unfortunately, further information is not easy to come by. When my husband and I were looking to replace our cord-wood stove with a pellet stove several years back, very few of the stove dealers we visited seemed to be aware of the factors that make these stoves so desirable to a homeowner. To this day, it’s almost impossible to walk into a stove store and get all your questions knowledgeably answered. And collecting information about them can still require many hours of churning through online blogs, and trying to interpret manufacturers’ websites.
After this experience, my husband, Ken MacDonald, decided to share the information we’d picked up over several years of experience and research, and earlier this year published “The Pellet Stove Almanack: Home Heating Joins the 21st Century.”
