Thinking baseball and Brotherly Love

To the editor:

I enjoyed reading Bob Ritchie’s Viewpoint column but I must, in honor of the Philadelphia Phillies, correct one of his facts. The Phillies not only captured the National League Pennant but they also won the World Series in 6 games in 1980 against the Kansas City Royals, so the statement about them not getting into a series until 1983 is erroneous.

1980 was a tremendous year in Phillies history...Mike Schmidt, Greg “The Bull” Luzinski, Tug McGraw, Gary Maddox, “Bake” McBride to name a few of the players with a lot of heart that made the city proud that year. I worked in the newborn nursery where Mike Schmidt’s baby was born that year and all the newborns had Phillies pennants on their bassinets.

It all happened in the City of Brotherly love in 1980.
