Area students nominated for U.S. service academies

Two area students were nominated by U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) to attend one of the nation’s service academies in 2014. More than 40 New Hampshire students were nominated.

Jordan Loll of Peterborough, ConVal High School, was nominated to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy and Joseph McCullough of Rindge, Saint Bernard’s Central Catholic High School, Fitchburg, Mass., was nominated to attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

A reception in honor of the nominees was hosted by Senator Ayotte at the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium in Concord.

To be considered for appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by a member of Congress or other authorized nominating source. The academies include the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.
