They had grace during budget cuts

To the editor:

Regretting not to have written sooner, I want to be sure the teachers at the Jaffrey-Rindge schools know how impressed and deeply grateful all of us in our two towns were, and are, for their decision not to dispute the School Board’s budget for the coming year. Those kinds of battles are so painful to all involved.

We know that teachers today have, without a doubt, the most challenging job in any community: making sure, every day, that our children stay on task, feel esteemed, and learn what the world they will enter needs them to know.

All of us know they should be earning more for such demanding work, and sincerely wish we could guarantee that to happen. But until we can change the tax structure in our town and state, we always ask them to bite the bullet, and this year, they did so with a lot of grace.

Hats off, to all of them, and may their summers give them the peace and rest they need.
