Letter: Some good came out of Article 8
To the editor:
The votes are counted, the results are in, and the voters of ConVal resoundingly defeated the attempt to close Great Brook School. This unnecessary fight caused great fear and concern in our communities, among ConVal staff, and most unfortunately, in the children concerned that their school would vanish.
But some good has come of this. We saw an outpouring of school spirit from the students of Great Brook School. A show of support from the community that I hope will in some small way boost the morale of the Great Brook staff. And most importantly, a coming together in a common cause from people in every district town.
The Great Brook towns voted overwhelmingly to save Great Brook. But we could not have done so without the support of voters in every town, including (and especially) Peterborough. The great North-South civil war, predicted by many and agitated for by a persistent few, did not come to pass. My most sincere thanks to the 581 in Peterborough, 126 in Greenfield, 159 in Dublin, 143 in Temple, and 33 in Sharon who voted to preserve our schools, and knit our communities together rather than tear them apart.
