Market closings affect food bank
To the editor:
The Monadnock Area Food Pantry and the Peterborough Food Pantry just received a letter from the New Hampshire Food Bank in Manchester. It explained the loss they are feeling with Shaw’s and Stop & Shop closing 12 stores in New Hampshire — stores who have been very generous to the NH Food Bank.
They anticipate a short fall of donated food, and especially this year’s Thanksgiving “fixings” they offer to us (stuffing, gravy, potatoes, cranberry sauce). The Food Bank is reporting that they’ll do their best to supply us with turkeys.
These times are challenging to both our pantries, but even more so to the families we serve. We’d like to request a special donation project from your readers of stuffing (in a box), gravy (in a can), a box of instant potatoes, cranberry sauce, a can of green beans, brownie mix or cake mix and frosting. Any or all of these can be dropped off at the Peterborough Pantry on Elm Street (the Peterborough Community Center) Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, and to 51 Concord Street also open from 9 a.m. to noon.
Thank you for helping us feed those who are hungry in the Monadnock region.
