Sharon stood up to the threats
To the editor:
The little town won. Our town of 327 residents have been fighting two separate lawsuits from companies whose interests conflicted with our zoning laws and master plan.
Both San-Ken Homes, Inc., and the Quinn Brothers Corporation proposed excavation activities which were voted down by our Zoning Board of Adjustment. During the discussions, both entities threatened legal action if we didn't approve their activities, which is a daunting prospect for a town of our size.
In other states I’ve seen boards and cities cave quickly to this threat, which ends up sacrificing their residents’ interests. I’m proud that our ZBA and our town residents decided to take a stand. Both companies sued our town in Superior Court and lost, and both companies appealed to the NH Supreme Court and lost again. Even if we had lost, our communities still need to show those who would dismiss our interests that we’re committed to protecting them.
Thank you, Town of Sharon and all of the other little guys who fight back when they're stepped on.
