Souhegan Chamber to hold cook off

The Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce, which includes Wilton, Lyndeborough, Mason, Greenville and New Ipswich, will hold its Second Annual Chili & Chowder Cook Off on Jan. 27 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Amherst Business Center on Route 101A.

The competition is open to everyone from professional chefs in select towns to individuals with a knack for cooking. Judges from the food industry will select a winner in each category in both the professional and the amateur categories for the Best Chili and Best Chowder. The general public will also vote for the “People’s Choice” award.

Professional participants should be prepared to provide 2-ounce samples for approximately 350 and amateurs should bring a large crockpot of their entry. Bring the entry hot and ready to serve. All paper products will be provided. Entry fee is $50 for commercial chefs or restaurants, $20 for amateurs.

The cost is $10 per adult, $8 per senior, and $5 per child (ages 12 and under) to taste all the entries, with a nominal charge for beer and baked goods. Tickets are available at the door or by calling the Chamber Office at 673-4360.

All proceeds will benefit Opportunity Networks, a non profit organization that provides meaningful employment and training to individuals living with acquired and developmental disabilities, and the Souhegan Valley Chamber.
