Lack of turnout hurts us at polls
To the editor:
Some residents are ecstatic at the outcome of our local elections, where the ConVal budget was soundly defeated. I am not. Specifically, I’m disheartened by the fact that in Peterborough — the largest town in our district — a mere 12 percent of registered voters showed up at the polls. It’s impossible to have a representative democracy when so few participate.
The budget scolds may be pleased with the outcome, but the failure of our local political process should give us all pause.
