Lee Nyquist for State Senate

To the editor:

“Hospital Systems around the country have started scaling back financial assistance to lower and middle-income people without health insurance,” so starts a front-page story in the May 26 New York Times. This trend is troubling to advocates for the uninsured...,” it continues, because resulting higher fees will cause many “to skip care rather than buy insurance.“

Recalling that it is our 9th Senatorial District Senator Andy Sanborn, who, with like-minded Tea Party colleagues in the Senate blocked the New Hampshire Medicaid Expansion bill a few months ago, precluding access to Medicaid for 38,000 or more (now estimated at 49,000) citizens across the state, in this season a logical course of action comes to mind. Senator Sanborn is no friend of Peterborough’s nor is he of our Monadnock Community Hospital, adversely affected by the Medicaid vote. The good news is that in a little over five months we will have the opportunity to vote him out of office. Lee Nyquist, a Democrat who lost to Sanborn by a very narrow margin in the last election, will oppose Bedford-based Sanborn again this year. Lee Nyquist will much better represent Peterborough, our hospital, plus lower and middle-income citizens in our State Senate.

John F. Vance
