Letter: Child care center a worthy investment
To the editor:
It has come to my attention that the Pine Hill Child Care Center at ConVal High School will likely be closing at the end of this academic year. This was sad news to me since the inclusion of such a program at ConVal where our high school students can take part and learn about Waldorf education seemed such a wonderful idea.
I emailed my friends who are involved with this program, Dennis and Rosario Wright — Rosario actually teaches in the program and their daughter attends High Mowing School, another Waldorf school in Wilton. They confirmed the news that ConVal needs the space for another need so the program is now looking for another space for next year. While I must admit that I do not know all the facts, it does seem a shame to lose this program.
A phone call with Peggy Waterhouse, founder and director of the program, soon to be called “A Child’s Nature-Care and Education Center,” brought some light and hope. However, much work and decision making still needs to be done along with fund raising to bring a facility up to state standards.
It seems there is a space large enough in the Steve Millard building which could be retrofitted to the child care center’s needs. A financial backer is needed to secure the spot, one who is willing to carry the project for 5 years. If you can see the importance of this project for the community, if you know someone who has the financial means to take this on, let them know how important this is. And while you are at it, send a check, no matter how small to A Child’s Nature, c/o the Pine Hill Child Care Center at ConVal High School, 184 Hancock Rd in Peterborough as seed money for this project.
