Let your voice  be heard

To the editor:

This is a critical week for gun law legislation and our senators need to hear from us. Ninety percent of Americans want stronger gun laws. A recent NH poll shows overwhelming support of stricter gun laws. Even 75 percent of NRA members support universal background checks. Those of us that want the gun-control laws passed that are before the Senate do not believe that they infringe on our Second Amendment rights. Yet Sen. Kelly Ayotte has not been ready to listen to her constituents and the American people. Her position, up until now, has been to stand firmly with the NRA leadership in opposing expanded background checks and most of the other legislation. However, last week at least she voted to let the gun control legislation come to the floor for debate and a vote. Maybe her rigid support of the gun lobby and the NRA leadership is beginning to soften. Sen. Ayotte might listen if enough of her constituents let her know they want her to vote for stricter gun control laws now.

Some of the issues that will be addressed are expanded criminal background checks, a ban on assault weapons, limiting the magazine clips to 10 rounds, school safety, mental health issues as they relate to guns. If all of this passed would it guarantee that our children and citizens would be protected from being shot down as were those beautiful children in the Newtown, Conn., school? Of course, no one set of laws can guarantee protection, but it would be a major step in the right direction. Help it happen.

Call Sen. Kelly Ayotte today at 1-202-224-3324 (Washington office) or 622-7979 (Manchester office) or email her at: www.ayotte.senate.gov
