I have signed on for the Governor’s 90-mile challenge to do something physical a mile each day.

I like the idea of signing on for something that I am now committed to achieving. I have always been an active person. I love to walk, bike, hike, play tennis. When I taught school it was difficult to find the time to do as much physical activity as I wanted; but I was busy enjoying watching my four children play in their various sports.

When I retired I thought, “Here I go, I can do all the activities I want to do, and finally ski for free at Cannon Mountain!” Then my arthritis really flared up! I was told I needed one hip replaced...and then another!

Well, I had told my students at school, attitude is everything, so I said let’s do it, and after the surgeries I was more determined than ever to get moving. I do have other joint issues, but I know the more active I am, the better my body feels. I feel it’s very important to get with groups of people who as they age have the same attitude of keeping your mind and body active......move it or lose it.
