Change needed at intersection
To the editor:
A few gallons of paint could well have prevented the injuries caused in the rear-end crash on Sunday at the intersection of Route 101 and Union Street in Peterborough.
This is a dangerous intersection because cars turning left onto Union Street must stop in the travel lane if there is oncoming traffic. At the speeds traveled on this road, any driver heading east, even if going the speed limit, has a very short time to react when the car in front stops.
Route 101 has wide shoulders at this intersection and it would be possible to repaint the lines to create a left-turn lane, as I have seen done in other areas of the state.
Perhaps the Department of Transportation could spare a few dollars to do this work to improve safety at this intersection.
