Night skiing is a valuable resource
To the editor:
Within the past couple years I have really gotten attached to skiing and snowboarding. I have been going to Crotched Mountain ever since I was six years old, and have always loved it.
I have recently heard the news on Crotched Mountain and what may become of night skiing. Honestly, what is wrong with night skiing? It’s where teens and many others go to have fun skiing and snowboarding with friends and enjoy the slopes during the day and night.
My opinion is that night skiing is the best, under the lights. Just going up and down the slopes at night, is awesome. Crotched Mountain is very convenient for my family. My family and I can go over to the mountain around four o’clock to go skiing. We can ski for a couple of hours, eat dinner and go back out for a little while longer, all under the lights. Just because a few people have an issue with the lights does not mean they should ruin other people’s enjoyment.
I have talked to many people while going up on the chair lift, and asked where they are from. Half the time, they are not even from the Monadnock area. Many come up for the weekend to ski day and night. If night skiing was not available they might choose a different destination causing a loss of income to not only to Crotched Mountain but to nearby towns, as well. Where do you think people stay when they are on a ski vacation? They stay at inns, hotels, motels and local bed and breakfasts. They eat at local restaurants and shop in local towns. It would be lost local revenue and a reduced town tax base.
I really love Crotched Mountain and I would hate to see this happen so please do not let it. If you care let your voice be heard. Please go to the board meeting on Sept. 12 at 7:30 and let yourself be heard.
