Giving the gift of a warm home
To the editor:
Imagine a family with both parents working full-time, making a modest income, definitely more than minimum wage, but still below a livable wage for the Monadnock region, having to choose between heating their home, buying groceries, or covering the rest of their utility bills.
We have many families in Peterborough that fit this description. The Keep Peterborough Fund was created to help provide assistance to these households, the “new middle.” These are hard-working individuals and families who do not qualify for the state fuel assistance program because they make just a little too much money to fall within the low state income limits, but they’re still struggling to make ends meet.
With salaries staying stagnant but utilities continually on the rise, keeping the house warm gets more challenging every year. Let’s keep the heat on. This season we hope that residents will consider making a donation to the Keep Peterborough Warm Fund. Donations can be made to Keep Peterborough Warm, 1 Grove Street, Peterborough, NH 03458. If you’re an individual or household that fits the description above, please contact the Town of Peterborough at the address listed to pick up an application or call 924-8000, ext 101 for more information. You may qualify to receive assistance.
