Letter: Peterborough spending too much

Tuesday, February 20, 2018

To the editor:

First, I would like to express my appreciation for the dedication and commitment of our town police officers and our fire and rescue crew members. I certainly want them to have what they need to operate at the highest efficiency, but without overburdening our town residents and without making it almost impossible for the average person/family to live here. Six million dollars for a fire station, $3 million for a town garage and $8 million for the library – for which I’ve never seen a line outside because there is no room inside – is just way too much. Maybe this is why school enrollment is down.

Why does it seem no one is upset about the spending, but so many are up in arms because Eversource wants to put up a few utility poles in Miller State Park. Is anyone complaining about all the other poles in town? No, because those poles bring essential services to their homes.

Where has all the New England Yankee ingenuity, frugality and common sense gone?

Peterborough, “A Good Town to Live In”… if you can afford it.
