Barrett, Haase among local hopefuls at states
Several local indoor track athletes will compete in the state championships this Sunday at Dartmouth. ConVal will be represented by a handful of athletes. Senior Haley Zanga, who was one of the best in Divsion II in the 55-meter hurdles this season, is back to the state championship for the second straight year in that event. Zanga is ranked fourth in the state in the hurdles. She’ll also be competing in the 4x200 relay, along with teammates Bailey Guinn, Lara Mathias and Grace Bowman. Bowman is also competing for the 300-meter dash title.
Senior Corey Barrett comes into the championships ranked first in the state in both the 300-meter and 55-meter dash.
“He has a great opportunity to win both titles,” ConVal coach Thomas Mbungo said. Barrett was named to the All-State team this week .
Conant’s lone representative at the state meet will be shotputter Justin Haase. If he can top his personal best distance of 45 feet, 11 inches, he should be right in the mix for the state title.
