Martin named to All-Conference team
Springfield College senior Sean Martin of Rindge was selected to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball All-Conference second team. Martin has been a key to Springfield’s success this season, as the Pride earned its second-straight at-large berth into the NCAA Championship tournament. Springfield is in the midst of one of its finest seasons as a Division III program and finished the year at 20-7, marking just the third 20-win season in the 16-year tenure of head coach Charlie Brock.
Martin is Springfield’s all-around guy this year. The senior is averaging 31.1 minutes per game and is leading the team in several categories. He’s dished out a team-best 128 assists and tallied 65 steals. Martin is second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.7 points per game. He’s gotten to the foul line 135 times this season, shooting 76.3 percent from the charity stripe. Martin has shot 50 percent (101-202) from the floor and has started all 27 games for the Pride.
As a team, Springfield is shooting 48.1 percent from the field and ranks in the top 15 nationally in assists per game.
In Springfield’s NCAA DIII tournament first-round loss to Mary Washington last weekend, Martin scored a team-high 16 points and dished out nine assists.
