The WLC girls softball team is off to quite a start. After a somewhat shaky 9-8 win over Epping on opening day, the Warriors have turned on the heat and are now 4-0 on the young season. Most recently, WLC beat Sunapee 12-0 last Wednesday, on the strength of pitcher Sarah Holka’s terrific start. Holka pitched five innings, giving up only two hits and no runs while striking out eight. “That was by far Sarah’s best game,” head coach Denny Claire said.

At the plate, Holka went 2-3 with an RBI triple, as did Ally Schwab. Lorrie Blais laid down a pair of successful bunts and crossed the plate to aid the Warriors’ cause.

WLC has outscored their opponents 43-3 in their last three games.

“We played all four games at home, which is an advantage,” Claire said. “I think we’re getting better, but we’ve got a ways to go. We’ve been improving, which is good, but the test will be how we do on the road.”

WLC started their road stint last night, after press time, against 1-1 Newmarket. They’ll travel to Hinsdale on Wednesday, and the Warriors will have to be on their guard, as Hinsdale surprisingly beat WLC last year for the first time in recent memory.
