CV repeat bid dashed in extras

Cougars hang tough with John Stark but lose on walk-off in the bottom of the 10th

The ConVal softball team defeated sixth seeded Plymouth 2-0 on June 7, punching a ticket to their third straight Final Four. Not having faced Plymouth during the regular season, the Cougars had to rely on their post season experience to pull out the victory. Head coach Jim Coppo reflected on the team’s third straight trip to Southern New Hampshire University earlier this week.

“As our 2014 campaign approached we could only imagine as we pondered. But we were defending champions, and we would enjoy the ride. That ride has been filled with smiles, laughs, sweat, pains, lessons, disappointments and hard work,” said Coppo.

The Cougars played John Stark, a team who they were shut out 13-0 by during the regular season, last night at SNHU in the semi-finals. ConVal battled Stark deep into extra innings last night. Stark pitcher Lyndsey Turner took a no-hitter into the fifth before ConVal’s Courtney Fisher broke it up and scored on a JoEllen Racicot sac fly. Racicot then saved the day in the 10th, making a shoestring catch in the outfield with the winning run on third.

Once Taylor Guay knocked in Racicot in the top of the 10th, things looked good for the Cougars, but the Generals tied it up and won it on a walk-off in the bottom of the tenth, 4-3.
