FPU mens soccer earns at large bid
The Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer team was selected for its 10th straight NCAA Division II tournament on Monday.
The Ravens landed an at-large bid to Super Region 1 and will be the sixth seed. They will play No. 3 Merrimack in the first round on Friday at 6 p.m. at Southern New Hampshire University. It is the program’s 18th overall appearance in the national tournament.
FPU lost in the Northeast-10 semifinals to Merrimack 1-0 on Nov. 2, ending its bid for a third straight conference title. The Ravens lost both meetings with Merrimack by 1-0 scores, including an Oct. 10 contest in Rindge.
Last year, FPU won the Super Region 1 title on its way to the program’s fourth Final Four appearance.
Entering Friday’s contest, the Ravens own an 11-5-2 mark overall and were 8-3-2 in NE-10 play. Of the team’s five losses, four came by a single goal. The winner of Friday’s match-up will take on second seeded Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday at 3 p.m. FPU is one of four NE-10 programs to make the regional.
