There was little secret that this year would be a rebuilding one for the ConVal boys hockey program.

After losing 11 seniors, including five starters from last season, the Cougars knew that a playoff run would be unlikely, but still felt there were enough games where they would be competitive to pull off a few victories.

But of those games, ConVal was only able to grab one win and the team finished 1-17 overall and in last place in Division III.

The Cougars posted their only victory on Jan. 2, a 10-5 decision over Kearsarge, the same team they lost to 9-3 in Saturday’s season finale. Following the only win, ConVal dropped 13 straight to close out the year.

On Jan. 12, the Cougars went into overtime with Manchester West, but fell 6-5.

ConVal scored an average of 2.5 goals per game and was only shut out three times, but allowed almost eight per contest, including at least nine in 10 of 18 games.

Sophomore Erik Leger led ConVal in goals scored with 13 and was the only one to reach double digits. Leger also had a team-best 19 points.

Senior Mason Ellis had a team-leading 10 assists, but just one goal entering the final two games. Then on Senior Night, Ellis scored four times and added another in Saturday’s season finale.

Junior Travis Burke also had six goals and sophomore Jason Haley scored four times with nine assists.

ConVal graduates four seniors.
