FPU men earn top seed in region
The Franklin Pierce University men’s basketball team has earned the top overall seed in the NCAA Division II East Regional.
It is the second straight year that the Ravens will hold the No. 1 ranking in the regional despite losing to Southern New Hampshire University 85-74 at home in Saturday’s Northeast-10 Conference championship game. It was FPU’s first trip to the conference title game after defeating top seed Saint Anselm by three in the semis.
The Ravens will take their 21-8 record into Saturday’s opening round of the East Regional against No. 8 Bloomfield at Southern New Hampshire University. Last year, they lost to Bloomfield in the second round of the regional. The winner of Saturday’s game will take on the winner of Dominican/New Haven on Sunday.
FPU is one of four NE-10 programs to make the East Regional.
The Ravens got off to a sluggish start on Saturday against SNHU and never recovered. They were down 14 at the break after scoring just 24 first-half points.
Junior Ellis Cooper scored a team-high 23 points with eight rebounds and five steals. Senior Eric Jean-Guillaume, the NE-10 Player of the Year, and sophomore Ryen Vilmont each added 15.
FPU won both regular season meetings with Southern New Hampshire.
