FPU women fall in NE-10 semifinals
The Franklin Pierce University women’s basketball team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II tournament on Sunday and will be the seventh seed in the East Regional.
The Ravens will take on Northeast-10 rival Stonehill, the No. 2 seed, on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Bentley University. FPU lost both meetings with Stonehill by double digits during the regular season.
It marks the sixth straight year the Ravens have earned a spot in the national tournament and 11th in program history.
FPU came up one step short of the Northeast-10 Conference championship game last week, falling to top seed Bentley 74-55 in the semifinals.
The Ravens played right with the No. 3 nationally ranked team for the entire first half and a good portion of the second, but the Falcons were just too much in the end.
The Ravens got off to a fast start, scoring nine of the first 11 points of the game and held a 24-16 advantage with 4:34 remaining in the first. But Bentley would go on an 11-3 run to close out the half tied at 27 and would score 17 of the first 24 to start the second half.
Freshman Kara Charette, an NE-10 all-rookie team selection, led the way with 14 points and six rebounds. The Ravens are 18-10 overall.
