male athlete

Devin Springfield
Conant Basketball

Springfield was the best player on the best team in all of Division III and proved it by winning the division’s Player of the Year award.

In leading Conant to its 10th boys state basketball championship and the first of his career, Springfield scored a team-leading 20.9 points per game with 5.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists — also a team best — and 3.1 assists. He shot a team-leading 61 percent from the floor.

Springfield, a senior, scored a season high of 28 on two occasions against Stevens and Bow, both on the road, and just two shy of his career high.

Springfield had 13 games of 20 or more points during the regular season and two more in the Orioles’ run to the D-III title, including a new career playoff high of 26 against Newport in the semifinals.

On Feb. 13, Springfield became the 17th player in school history to score 1,000 career points. He would finish the season with 501 points and 1,167 for his career that put him in a tie for 8th all-time and fifth on the boys side.

In addition to winning Player of the Year honors, Springfield also was named to the Division III first-team for the second year in a row.
