Warriors sneak past Conant, 5-4

The Wilton-Lyndeborough boys tennis team took the first of two meetings with Conant, 5-4.

The Orioles had just five players for the match and were forced to forfeit both the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles match, but did win four of the other seven match-ups.

Conant No. 1 Brian Yaceshyn earned an 8-2 win over WLC’s top player Connor Holt. WLC’s James Edmunds, playing in the second position, evened the score with an 8-2 victory over Conant’s Ben Desmaris.

Conant’s Lucas Tapply cruised to an 8-1 win over Ryan Christino, 8-1, and Zach Jean, Conant’s fifth ranked player for the match, won 8-0 over John Lemire. WLC’s No. 4 Skye Williams outlasted William Blake, 8-5.

The Warriors’ team of Holt and Edmunds won a close match with Yasechyn and Desmaris, 8-6. Tapply and Jean paired for an 8-1 win over Christino and Williams.

On Friday, Conant fell to Monadnock 7-2 with Tapply and Jean earning singles wins.

The Warriors traveled to Pelham on Monday in a make-up contest, while the Orioles have this week off and will next host White Mountains on May 1. WLC stood at 3-2 and Conant is 1-4. The teams play again on May 6 in Jaffrey.
