Strong start helps Vikings
Rines tosses five innings in 6-1 win
The Mascenic baseball team picked up its third win of the season with a 6-1 victory over Fall Mountain on Friday.
The Vikings scored three runs in the bottom of the first and never surrendered the lead. They added two more in the second and one in the fifth. Fall Mountain’s only run came in the fourth.
After two errors to start the game, the Wildcats had two runners in scoring position in the top of the first with no outs, but senior Jalen Rines was able to work out of the jam.
Rines allowed five hits and one run over five innings, while striking out eight on the afternoon. Sophomore Shane Rautiola threw the final two frames and surrendered just two hits with a strikeout.
Junior Matt Cyr and Rautiola each had a double and a single. Gordon Wayrynen and Richie Brassard had two singles apiece.
It was Mascenic’s first home win of the season.
The Vikings traveled to Hopkinton on Monday and will host Kearsarge on Wednesday.
