Conant pitchers  combine for no-hitter

The Conant softball team rebounded from its first loss of the season to defeat Kearsarge 13-0 in five innings on Friday.

Senior Kelsey Smith and sophomore Ivy Chalke combined to toss five no-hit innings, the second no-hitter for the Orioles this season.

Smith struck out six over the first three innings and Chalke punched out five in her two innings of work, as the Orioles improved to 6-1 overall entering Monday’s match-up with Fall Mountain. Conant has now scored double digits in four games this season.

Senior Teresa DiTommaso got things started with an RBI single in the first and Conant rolled from there.

Chalke connected for a two-run home run in the second, following a Devon Blood double. Blood finished 3-for-4.

The Orioles stood at 5-0 entering Wednesday’s rematch with Campbell, but fell 7-0 just five days after a 6-5 extra inning victory over the Cougars.

Conant next hosts Hillsboro-Deering on Friday.
