Excelling all-around

Ruby Roberts, a sixth grader at Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School, finished in a tie for fourth in the all-around competition for her session at the Massachusetts Level 4 state gymnastics meet on April 20.

Roberts finished with a combined score of 36.625 for the four events and was just 0.025 out of third place for her group.

Roberts earned two bronze medals on the day. She scored a 9.425 on the beam and a 9.35 for her floor routine. In both events, Roberts was only 0.025 points away from taking silver.

Roberts also finished with a 9.0 mark for the vault and 8.85 for the bars.

She competes for the Clark Memorial YMCA USAG Gymnastics Team in Winchendon, Mass. Roberts participated in the small team category at the state meet. A total of 17 gymnasts competed in the third session of the senior group.

Roberts, who is 11 years old, began her gymnastics career at the age of five. Last year, Roberts placed 12th in the all-around with a total score of 33.925. Her best finish was a tie for fifth in the beam.
