ConVal win comes by forfeit
Use of ineligible pitcher ends game
After 10 innings, the ConVal and Milford baseball teams were deadlocked at six.
And while normally the game would have gone to a fourth extra inning that was not the case on Wednesday. Milford had used its starting pitcher for all 10 innings, which breaks the NHIAA rule for number of innings allowed in a single game. The rule states a pitcher can only throw nine innings, so ConVal was awarded the victory by forfeit.
The Spartans had taken a 6-5 lead in the top of the 10th, only to have ConVal tie the game in the bottom of the inning on a Will McPhee sacrifice fly.
ConVal senior Taylor Doyle pitched the first nine innings, striking out nine, but was relieved prior to the 10th because of the rule.
McPhee also had an RBI double as part of a four-run sixth, which helped give ConVal a 5-4 lead. Milford tied the game with two outs in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.
ConVal hosts Lebanon on Wednesday.
