Cougars’ wins streak reaches 5
Back-to-back performances from Clough, Doyle help ConVal climb D-II standings
All year, the ConVal baseball team has been getting great pitching and timely hits.
And both helped the Cougars run their win streak to five games last week.
ConVal got seven strong innings from junior Ivon Clough to defeat Souhegan 6-4 on Friday. Two days earlier, senior Taylor Doyle led the Cougars to a 6-5 victory over Lebanon.
ConVal took a 2-0 lead in the third on Friday on senior Harrison LeFlem’s two-run single.
Following a three-run fourth for the Sabers, Clough’s double and Zach Mackey’s run scoring single in the fifth helped the Cougars regain the lead 5-3. ConVal scored once more in the sixth.
Souhegan loaded the bases in the seventh, but Clough only allowed one run on a sacrifice fly. He finished with six strikeouts, no walks, six hits and two earned runs.
Doyle struck out 10 and surrendered just two earned runs over six innings in the victory over Lebanon.
ConVal trailed 4-0 in the third before Clough’s RBI single put the Cougars on the scoreboard. They would add five more in the fourth. Following a Tyler Aborn walk, Clough and LeFlem had back-to-back triples. Mackey also drove in a run with a single.
The Cougars entered the week with a 9-4 record and in sixth place in D-II. Following a home game with Sanborn on Monday, ConVal will host Windham on Thursday and travel to Sanborn on Friday for the regular season finale.
