Jr. Legion team defeats Milford, sweeps two at Merrimack
The Jaffrey Post 11 Junior Legion baseball team began its 2013 season with three straight victories.
On Saturday, Jaffrey swept a doubleheader at Merrimack with 11-1 and 8-2 wins following a 5-3 victory over Milford in the opener on June 17.
Ryan Carey pitched all five innings of the first game, allowing just three hits and a run, while striking out two.
And before Carey even took the mound, Post 11 had a 5-0 lead behind run scoring doubles from Shane Rautiola and Ian Morris. Quinn Williams and Jesse LeBlanc each knocked in a run in the fourth.
In game two, Rautiola’s RBI single and Kyle Dupuis’ sacrifice fly in the third gave Jaffrey a 2-0 lead. Post 11 scored three runs in the sixth when they sent all nine batters to the plate.
Ryan Aho pitched five scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
In the season opener, Jaffrey took the lead in the third on hits by Carey, Rautiola and Dupuis.
Milford tied it up in the bottom of the inning, but Post 11 scored another in the fourth to take the lead for good. Dupuis led off the fifth with a double, moved to third on Aho’s single and scored on a Morris sacrifice fly.
Cyr was 3-for-3 and Rautiola picked up the win after striking out six over four innings, giving up two runs on four hits. Carey struck out four over the final three frames.
Post 11 hosted Keene on Wednesday and will next play on July 6.
