Monadnock 12U softball finishes runner-up in opening tournament

The Monadnock 12 and under all-star softball team finished second at the annual Barrington Grip n Rip tournament last weekend, the first tournament of the all-star season. Monadnock was 2-1 in pool play on Saturday and earned the third seed. With two wins in the single elimination part of the tournament on Sunday, including a 17-7 victory over the Merrimack Magic in the semifinals, Monadnock advanced to the championship game. But after two innings of the finals with Monadnock trailing 5-0, the game was called due to thunderstorms. Monadnock will host the District 5 tournament, July 5-7.
