Ravens fall short of Final 4

AAU team loses out on tiebreaker

The New England Ravens 14 and under AAU baseball team came up just short of advancing to the New England Final Four tournament.

The Ravens lost the three-way tiebreaker to the Baseball Unlimited Tigers Gold team for the Pool C spot and a chance to play for the New England title. The Ravens, Tigers and the North Providence Steamrollers were each 1-1 on Saturday. It came down to runs allowed and the Tigers had surrendered the fewest.

Despite missing out on the Final Four tournament, the Ravens will still play in the 14U National Championships in Fort Myers, Fla., July 20-25 after qualifying last year.

“We knew we were moving on no matter what, but we wanted to win the New Englands,” said 14U coach Jim Coppo.

The Ravens defeated the Steamrollers in the opener on Danny Allen’s walk-off hit, but lost to the Tigers 10-6 later on Saturday.

“We gave up five runs in the third and couldn’t overcome it,” said Coppo.

For the season, the Ravens are 39-4 and two of their losses have come to the Tigers.

The Ravens will play in a double elimination tournament this weekend before heading to nationals.
