Back-to-back shutouts put team at 2-0 entering Sunday
The Monadnock Mountaineers seventh and eighth grade youth football team improved to 2-0 on Sunday with a 21-0 victory over the Salem Rams.
It was the second straight shutout for the Mountaineers, who defeated Manchester West 34-0 in the season-opener on Aug. 25.
On Sunday, Tyler Faulkner scored the Mountaineers’ first touchdown on a 25-yard run in the opening quarter. Faulkner scored again in the third and finished with 96 yards on 10 carries.
Josh Arruda, who finished with 67 yards on 10 carries, scored the game’s final touchdown on a 25-yard run in the fourth.
Arruda also led the way on defense with 10 tackles and a sack. Daniel Curran had seven tackles, while Hunter Gullage and Jake Phillips each had five stops.
In the season-opener, the offense scored early and often in the big win over Manchester West. Arruda, Faulkner, Scott Stanley, Carter Jack, Carter Hunt and Danny Spezzaferri all scored touchdowns.
Ian LaBelle led all tacklers with seven, while Curran and Arruda each had one and a half sacks.
The Mountaineers travel to Manchester South on Sunday for their first road game.
