Cougars fall 48-0 on road to Milford
ConVal generates just 89 yards of offense in 2nd shutout loss, now 0-3 on season
The ConVal football team saw its record fall to 0-3 on the season after a 48-0 loss to Milford on Friday.
It was the second time the Cougars had been shut out this season and have now scored just 14 points in three games.
Once again, the ConVal offense struggled to get anything going, but the same cannot be said for the Spartans. Milford scored 21 points in the first quarter and 13 more in the second to take a 34-0 lead into the half.
“They just put up 21 points on us in a hurry,” said coach Ryan McCartney.
Milford scored three of its first half touchdowns in the matter of just four plays and added its final two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
ConVal amassed just 89 yards of offense on the night and never really threatened to prevent the shutout.
“You’re not going to do well when you get 89 total yards,” said McCartney. “We just struggled to move the ball.”
Junior quarterback John Crowley was 3-for-15 for 15 yards, while senior Riordan McCole led the rushing attack with 41 yards on 11 carries. Cory Barrett carried the ball 12 times for 27 yards. Freshman Liam Baldwin had one catch for 11 yards.
“What hurt us is that we just didn’t get into a flow,” said McCartney. “We weren’t putting ourselves in good down and distance situations.”
While turnovers had hurt ConVal in the first two weeks, that was not the case on Friday as each team had two. Junior Tim Bernier and sophomore Antoine Halsey each had a fumble recovery.
Senior Jordan Loll led the defense with 11 tackles.
ConVal hosts Kearsarge on Friday night.
