Christine Jutras Buhrman named to Norwich HOF

ConVal star was 4-year starter

Former ConVal basketball star Christine Jutras Buhrman was inducted into the Norwich University Hall of Fame in October. She was a four-year starter and a two-time tri-captain as a junior and a senior for the NU women’s basketball team before graduating in 1998.

Jutras held records for three-point field goals and free-throw percentage at Norwich on her way to surpassing the prestigious 1,000 career points milestone. She made an immediate impact as a freshman earning team Rookie of the Year honors and then went on to win two straight MVP awards as a junior and a senior.

In her final year in the Maroon and Gold, she led the Cadets to a 16-10 record and just their second ECAC Tournament bid in program history at the time. She also was named to the All-Tournament teams at Colorado College and Anna Maria while finishing her career with 1,245 points. Jutras also played in the NEWBA All-Senior game, scoring the game-winning basket in a 90-89 win.

Jutras played alongside her twin sister Michelle for all four years at Norwich. The twin duo excelled at both ends of the court with Christine taking the reins of the scorer and Michelle leading the way on the defensive end of the floor.

Jutras graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Communications and served as the sports editor for the Norwich Guidon student newspaper and was a senior producer for Norwich Today, a student-run TV show that focused on documentaries. She was a Rhodes Scholar finalist and helped win a college Emmy award for a documentary on Vietnam.

Jutras, the daughter of former Peterborough Recreation Department director Beaver Jutras and his wife, Claire, got her basketball career started at ConVal. Her achievements from her high school career include playing varsity softball and basketball all four years, culminating with a state basketball title in 1994. That title team included her sisters Michelle, Natalie and Veronica. She was named to the All-State team in 1994. Jutras finished her ConVal career with 1,389 points.

Following Norwich, Jutras worked in sales for three years and married Charles “Chuck” Burhman. She now is a stay at home mom raising her three children in Harbor. She has a daughter, Reagan (11) and two sons, Van (8) and Wyatt (5) that are all active in sports.
