A recap of other action around the area for Dec. 13-15

The ConVal girls basketball team opened its season Friday night with a 62-30 loss to Windham. Senior Jess Nerz led the Cougars with 14 points. Megan Buydos had seven points and seven rebounds and sophomore guard Jordan Mills had two points, three steals and seven rebounds in her first-ever varsity start. Lexi Sawyer was Windham’s high-scorer with 16 points. ConVal plays at Manchester West tonight at 6:30 p.m.

∎ The ConVal boys also dropped their season opener to Windham on Friday by a score of 68-45. Senior point guard Jordan Moore paced the Cougars with 13 points. Noah Cail contributed nine points off the bench and Malik Earle had a “fantastic” game on the glass, according to head coach Kevin Proctor.

“Outside of a poor second quarter, the boys played with heart,” Proctor said. ConVal was outscored by 19 in the second quarter. “We need to continue our work on execution and taking care of the ball,” Proctor said. ConVal hosts Bishop Brady tonight at 6:30 p.m.

∎ The WLC girls fell to 0-2 on the season Friday as they traveled to Hinsdale, losing 65-31 on what head coach Dennis Claire called “ice-cold” shooting.

“We got beat on the boards again and missed many layups,” Claire said. “The score was not as bad as it looks as we played our bench in the 4th quarter and we were outscored by the Hinsdale starters 22-6. We had a few good moments in the second and third quarters but struggled both on offense, with many bad passes, and on D, covering Hinsdale’s best shooters.”

Sophomore Ally Schwab scored 16 points and senior captain Sami Bosquet added eight. WLC will play a road game at Derryfield tonight at 5 p.m. WLC’s first home game has finally been announced as well; the Warriors, at first scheduled to open the season with six straight road contests, will now break up that string with a home game against Epping on Jan. 3.

∎ The Dublin School Lady Wildcats basketball team started off its season with a win against New Hampton School, 42-38. Freshman Sabrina Hayden was the leading scorer with 12 points. Senior Mylisha Drayton and Mekenzie Mattheson, a junior out of Jaffrey, each scored nine points. Sophomore Clare Halacy scored eight points and Harrisville native Sierra Riley, a sophomore, scored two points.

∎ The ConVal girls hockey season opener against Bishop Guertin, originally scheduled for Saturday, was postponed due to weather. A makeup date has yet to be announced.
