This year’s Monadnock Hunger Walk raised more than $6,400 for local food pantries.
The walk is a collaboration of churches and civic groups, including the Greenfield Covenant Church, Peterborough Union Congregational Church, Peterborough Unitarian Universalist Church, United Church of Jaffrey and other area churches. The churches take turns hosting the walk from year to year, with this year’s walk starting at the United Church of Jaffrey.
Walkers collected pledges for the food pantry of their choice, anywhere in the southern New Hampshire area, and then on Saturday met to take either a 4-mile route or an optional shorter route for casual walkers or families with children or strollers. At the sixth annual event, a total of 33 walkers raised $6,435.
The Jaffrey Food Pantry was the biggest earner, with a total of $2,625 raised, followed by the Rindge Food Pantry, with $1,215 raised. Walkers raised $1,025 for Rindge’s Got Lunch Program. The Peterborough Food Pantry received $920, with the Greenfield Food Pantry receiving $50. End 68 Hours of Hunger in Peterborough received $195, Helping Hands in Troy $105, Antrim Food Pantry $200 and the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Greenville $100.
