The ConVal indoor track team opened its season Saturday, Dec. 13, with a strong performance at Phillips Exeter Academy.
The boys’ team, which finished as the Division II runner-up last season, had several athletes place in the top 10 in their events.
Senior Ross Stephens highlighted the meet by setting a facility record while winning the 300-meter run in 35.37 seconds. Stephens also placed third in the 55-meter dash in 6.70 seconds. Both times were personal bests.
Senior Whitney Adair finished fourth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:51.11, while sophomore Walter Stephens placed fourth in the 1,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:51.74.
Junior Griffin Schultz earned sixth place in the 300-meter dash, posting a personal-best time of 37.46 seconds.
In the field events, junior Morly Johnson placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 10 inches. Junior Bretton Davies finished ninth in the long jump, recording a personal-best leap of 17 feet, 10.5 inches.
Under NHIAA rules, athletes must meet qualifying standards to continue competing beyond the midpoint of the season. All of the athletes mentioned have already met those standards. ConVal’s next meet is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 27, at the University of New Hampshire.
