Town of Jaffrey.

Snow and icy conditions caused several crashes in Jaffrey last weekend, including one in which a logging truck hit a power pole and blocked Old Sharon Road for a significant amount of time on Saturday.

Police reported crashes on Friday, Saturday, and during Sunday’s snowstorm.

On Friday at about 3:04 p.m., police responded to Nutting Road for a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a 2015 Honda Accord that had lost control on black ice and struck a guardrail. The vehicle was driven by Kristina Wallen, 32, of Jaffrey. Damage to both the vehicle and the guardrail was minimal, and Wallen was able to drive the car from the scene.

Also on Friday, at 10:02 p.m., police responded to Knight Street at the Webster Street intersection for a report of a 2017 Ford Fusion, driven by a 15-year-old Jaffrey resident. The driver, who was accompanied by a licensed adult, was practicing driving when the car was side-swiped by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The other vehicle fled the scene. Police checked downtown for the other vehicle, described as a silver four-door sedan with damage to the driver’s side, but were unable to locate it.

On Saturday, police responded to the area of 41 Old Sharon Road for a report of a loaded logging truck that had slid on ice, with its back end hitting and destroying a light pole. The truck was driven by Cameron Stephenson, 21, of Marlborough, and owned by Round II Timber of Fitzwilliam. The road was blocked while the pole was repaired.

On Sunday at 2:56 a.m., police responded to the intersection of Mountain Road and Milliken Road for a report of a vehicle off the road. When they arrived officers found a 2018 Toyota Rav4, driven by Nicole McGonagle, 22, of Jaffrey. Police said she had been traveling east on Mountain Road, allegedly too fast for the conditions, and her vehicle slid off the eastbound side of the road and down an embankment. McGonagle was not injured, and the vehicle was towed to Gauthier’s Auto Service.

Also on Sunday morning, police responded to an accident in the same area for another vehicle off the road. A 2019 Subaru Outback, driven by Spencer Clason, 61, of Westmoreland, with a single passenger, was traveling eastbound when the tires slipped into the culvert by the snowbank at the corner. Neither Clason nor a passenger was hurt, and there was no visible damage to their vehicle. Gauthier’s Auto Service towed the car to the shop to assess for possible damage. Police provided a courtesy ride for the occupants to the Marlborough Country Store to be picked up. Police requested that the Department of Transportation treat the area.
