Jonathan Hill Bateman

Hampton, NH – Jonathan H. Bateman, 90, the longtime proprietor of the "Liberal Arts Garage" in Peterborough, NH specializing in antique, classic and exotic vehicle restoration, passed away at the Oceanside Center in Hampton NH on July 25, 2025 after a long illness.

Mr. Bateman was born in East Liverpool, OH on May 4, 1935, and spent his childhood between Ohio and his family's seaside hotel in Newport, RI. Mr. Bateman attended Philips Exeter Academy in Exeter, and briefly attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC before moving to New England, first to Concord, MA and then to Peterborough, where he held a number of jobs in the region's automotive community before establishing the Liberal Arts Garage. Jon is survived by his younger sister, two daughters, two stepsons, two stepdaughters, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His ashes are interred at Glenwood Cemetery in Natick, MA alongside his beloved late wife Mary Willard Roe Bateman.
