A newly restored silent-era MGM epic starring Lillian Gish will open the 2026 silent film series at the Town Hall Theatre in Wilton on Sunday, Jan. 25.

“Annie Laurie” (1927), a historical drama set amid feuding Scottish clans in the late 17th century, will be shown at 2 p.m. at the Town Hall Theatre, 40 Main St. The screening is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $10 to support the theater’s silent film programming.

Live musical accompaniment will be provided by Jeff Rapsis, a New Hampshire-based silent film accompanist who performs at screenings nationwide.

The restoration was completed in 2024 after the Library of Congress transferred a 35mm print from its collection to digital media and performed preservation work.

Directed by John S. Robertson, the film was a major MGM release at the height of the silent era. Its large cast includes a young John Wayne in one of his earliest screen appearances.

Upcoming screenings include Harold Lloyd’s “Girl Shy” (Feb. 14), a double feature of dog-themed silent films (March 8), Cecil B. DeMille’s “The Ten Commandments” (April 5), Buster Keaton’s “Steamboat Bill, Jr.” (May 3), and “Beau Geste” (June 7).
