On Wednesday evening, Jaffrey Lt. Christopher LaBrecque took the oath to become Jaffrey’s new chief of police, with his wife, Casey LaBrecque, doing the honor of pinning his new badge.

The ceremony began with honoring outgoing Chief Todd Muilenberg, who has been with the department since 2018. Members of the police departments from Jaffrey and Rindge, where Muilenberg was chief before coming to Jaffrey, attended. Muilenberg thanked members of both communities for coming out in support.

“I just want to say it’s been a tremendous honor. It’s been a pleasure,” said Muilenberg. “I’m very proud of the next chief, who’s going to do a great job. Very good decision.”

LaBrecque is a veteran of the department, having joined as a patrol officer in 2013. He was promoted to master patrol officer in 2015, sergeant in 2017, and became lieutenant in 2020.

LaBrecque took and signed his oath of office, conducted by Town Clerk Kelly Rollins, on Wednesday night at the Select Board meeting, followed by a pinning ceremony where his wife, Casey LaBrecque pinned his new chief’s badge to his uniform.

In a short speech following his pinning, LaBrecque thanked those who attended and his family for their support, and said he was ready to jump into the job.

“I look forward to getting going. I think some great things for JPD are in the future,” LaBrecque said.

LaBrecque holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychobiology with a minor in psychology and social relations from the University of New England. He graduated from UNE in the spring of 2006 and started his law enforcement career later that year.

Prior to working in the Jaffrey department, LaBrecque started in the Farmington Police Department in 2006 as a patrol officer. He joined the Kingston Police in 2010, serving as a patrol officer, detective and juvenile prosecutor. During his time with the Jaffrey department, he has also served as a part-time officer for the Dublin Police Department, between 2015 and 2020.

During his career, Chief LaBrecque has been certified as a baton instructor, officer-in-charge instructor, TASER instructor, defensive tactics instructor, and physical fitness testing instructor. His other certifications include Property and Evidence Room Management, Officer as Prosecutor, Major Crimes Investigations, Active Shooter Incident Management, Command Leadership and Management, Crisis Media Response, and he has completed an FBI training program.
